With an abundance of open space, coastal charm and a relaxed yet sophisticated elegance, it’s clear to see why the Hamptons style of home has become increasingly popular on the Australian East Coast and continues to be one of our most requested designs.
Inspired by a combination of Classic Coastal with Hamptons influences, this iconic style is renowned for its neutral and white colour palette, high ceilings, large windows, timber floors and expansive layout.
We have had the pleasure of collaborating with building designer Adam Roser from South Coast Building Design and Anissa Grossmann from Complete Colours and Interiors to design and build a classic coastal style home turning our clients dreams into a reality. Our recent build in Woonona sees an Australian take on this in demand style, setting the benchmark and being a constant source of inspiration for new builds.
True to the classic aesthetic, the exterior features a raked ceiling with exposed rafters however we opted for colourbond roofing which is strong, durable and designed to withstand the Australian climate. Scyon linea cladding with timber trim accents create a fresh contrast against the roof, together with free form Howqua natural stone, which is placed around the base of the exterior adding texture and style.
Once inside you are greeted by high ceilings and Tallow wood timber floorboards that run throughout the ground floor and up the staircase. A white timber banister leads to the top floor while the outside of the staircase features a painted white V paneling for that timeless coastal charm.
Just off the entry and through twin French doors you will find a spacious home office/guest quarters with natural light pouring through the louvre windows. The adjoining ensuite also doubles as a generous powder room with exquisite providence chic floor tiles, tiled feature wall and custom wall hung shaker style vanity with chrome fixtures and hardware.
Continue along the hall and you will discover the laundry with custom cabinetry providing plenty of storage while the duck egg tiled splash back creates a cool contrast against the light neutral tones.
White framed twin French doors are also positioned at the end of the hallway, adding an elegant touch and privacy between the front room and the main lounge room.
Designed with comfort and style in mind, the lounge room features an inbuilt fireplace creating a warm and inviting atmosphere while the window seat encased within the gorgeous bay window is a place to relax and unwind.
The heart of any coastal style home is the open plan kitchen. White shaker style cabinetry and a butler’s pantry creates an abundance of storage while the central island features a 40 mm Luna White Quantum Quartz benchtop rested upon a dulux grid shaker style base – ideal for entertaining and a nod to the classic Hamptons colour palette. Two decorative rattan pendant light shades were sourced from local trader ‘55 Parrots’ and hang proudly over the island adding a touch of natural texture and colour.
The dining and living area are bathed in natural light which streams in through the windows and floor to ceiling sliding doors that open out onto the alfresco area. This creates a light, airy feeling and a strong connection between indoor and outdoor living, another key trait of this style and one Australians love to embrace especially during the warmer months. The outdoor area is undercover, extending out from the main house, and is a haven for entertaining. Crisp white columns frame the perimeter whilst Scyon Cladding has yet again been used to create an enclosed area for the BBQ and outdoor kitchen.
The Coastal and Hamptonesque feel continues upstairs with 4 spacious bedrooms, each containing built-in robes, and a comfortable lounge/living area with an adjoining balcony that overlooks the ocean. The master bedroom features louvre windows allowing plenty of light to flow in while the walk in robe provides lots of storage space and the entry to the ensuite.
The harmonious Hamptons colour palette and white V paneling is also present in the main upstairs bathroom. His and hers basins sit upon a custom dulux gamelan coloured shaker style floating vanity and a sizeable free standing bathtub in a separate room creates a private oasis for wellness and relaxation.
